Boys & Girls Club Presents Donation to Haitian School

SANTA CLARITA (April 19,2010) – The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley has made a donation of $162 to Three Angels Children’s Relief, a charity that supports a school and clinic in Haiti.

“Being that the Boys & Girls Club also works with kids, we felt this nonprofit was close to home,” Bryan Lake, director of administration for the Club, said.

The money will help Three Angels Children’s Relief operate its elementary school for preschool through 6th grade in Port au Prince. Children also have access to free showers, clean water, medical care and food.

Shannon Hoffmann came to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley on April 16 to accept the donation.  A board member for Three Angels Children’s Relief, she was very appreciative of the monies.  It was a friend of hers who founded the organization after she was horrified at what she saw in the orphanages in Haiti.  Hoffmann also noted that the school the organization operates is the only free school in the area. The goal is to provide an education so the children can find their way out of poverty.

The donations were collected at the Newhall and Canyon Country Clubhouses through one simple, old-fashioned method—a spare change jar.  Parents, employees, and children got into the spirit by tossing in their spare change.  Additional monies were raised and will be donated to another organization supporting Haiti.

The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley is a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, an organization with more than 4,000 clubs nationwide.  The local Club was formed by a group of community leaders who recognized the need for high-quality programs and facilities at affordable costs for area young people. The Club now serves more than 2,700 youth, ages 7-17, at facilities in Newhall, Canyon Country and Val Verde.  Programs engage members in education and career exploration, the arts, sports, recreation and fitness, character and leadership development, and healthy life choices.  For more information, visit http://www.scvbgc.org/
