Ventress Clubhouse in Santa Clarita Valley became the backdrop for the Annual Boys & Girls Club Holiday Board Luncheon. This event, hosted by our dedicated team, aimed to celebrate the commitment and hard work of its board members, staff, and key supporters. The doors swung open at 11:30 am, inviting guests to the James T. Ventress Clubhouse for a warm welcome, a chance to meet and greet, and the beginning of a memorable afternoon. Club CEO Matt Nelson initiated the board recognition ceremony. Expressing gratitude to the Governing Board, Advisory Board, supporters, partners, and volunteers, Nelson emphasized the significance of the Annual Holiday Board Luncheon in acknowledging the dedication of the Board and key supporters.

For the ceremony, immediate past Board President Gloria Mercado-Fortine joined current Board President Matt Carpenter in presenting the distinguished awards. Their dynamic collaboration infused the event with a sense of continuity, bridging the past and the present in the Boys & Girls Club’s journey. As they honored the recipients with heartfelt words and applause, Carpenter and Mercado-Fortine underscored the importance of recognizing outstanding contributions and celebrating the collective dedication that propels the Club forward. Together, they exemplified the spirit of leadership and commitment that defines the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley.

Board Member of the Year – Stephanie English:
The prestigious Board Member of the Year award, named after the esteemed Tom Veloz, was presented to Stephanie English. Stephanie’s outstanding leadership on the Governing Board, her role in fostering relationships with LA County and opening doors to new opportunities in Castaic, highlighted her passion and dedication to Santa Clarita Valley’s youth.

Employee of the Year – Lilly Hernandez:
Recognizing commitment and dedication to the Club, Lilly Hernandez was honored as the Employee of the Year. As a School Site Manager overseeing the launch of five new locations, Lilly played a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of quality programs and services in the Newhall School District.

Sam Dixon Legacy Award – Premier America Foundation:
The Sam Dixon Legacy Award, presented by Gloria Mercado-Fortine, celebrated Premier America Foundation for their significant time and effort contribution to the Boys & Girls Club. Their financial literacy program and ten-year financial commitment of $100,000 were commended for creating a reliable revenue stream.

Gary Condie Special Recognition Award:
This special award, presented in memory of Gary Condie, recognized three outstanding individuals and businesses for their recent contributions to the Club. Krisi Dervin, National Charities League, and Captain Justin Diez were acknowledged for their exceptional service and support.

Tony Newhall Volunteer of the Year – Kathy Rutherford:
Named after the first chairperson of the Annual Benefit Auction, the Tony Newhall Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Kathy Rutherford. Her tireless efforts in both the Annual Benefit Auction and Festival of Trees, including whimsical centerpieces and gorgeous Christmas trees, were celebrated.

Alex Kontogiannis Parent of the Year – Maria Rivas:
In its second year, the Alex Kontogiannis Parent of the Year award recognized Maria Rivas. Her willingness to share her family’s story, volunteer at events, and contribute to the Club’s activities made her a shining example of parental involvement.

Thomas E. Dierckman Clubhouse
In a momentous announcement, Matt Carpenter revealed the renaming of the Sierra Vista Clubhouse to the Thomas E. Dierckman Clubhouse. This heartfelt decision honors the exceptional contributions and enduring leadership of Tom Dierckman, a longstanding and devoted board member. Tom’s unwavering commitment to the Boys & Girls Club has left an indelible mark on the organization, embodying the spirit of service and dedication. The Thomas E. Dierckman Clubhouse stands as a tribute to his legacy, symbolizing the profound impact that one individual can have on the lives of countless youth in the Santa Clarita Valley.

2022-2023 Governing Board President
Additionally, the Annual Boys & Girls Club Holiday Board Luncheon featured a moment of recognition for Matt Carpenter, acknowledging his impactful two-year tenure as Governing Board President. During his leadership, marked by significant growth and the pursuit of new opportunities for the Club, Matt’s steadfast commitment and vision have played a pivotal role in the organization’s success.
