On Saturday, February 17, at 1:30 p.m., Saugus native Zachary Hoffman will be recognized for his outstanding achievement as he is awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a special court of honor ceremony. The event, held at the Sierra Vista Branch of Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, will celebrate Hoffman’s remarkable dedication and contribution to the community.

Hoffman, 18, a member of Scouts BSA Troop 303 based in Canyon Country, has been deeply involved with the Boys & Girls Club from a young age. His parents, who have been volunteers for nearly two decades, played a significant role in his connection to the organization, notably through their involvement in the annual Festival of Trees fundraiser.

“When I approached the Boys & Girls Club about an Eagle Scout project, it felt like a natural progression of my involvement with them over the years,” Hoffman shared. His project involved renovating the gym office and sports storage area at the Sierra Vista Branch, transforming four under-utilized rooms into efficient and organized spaces.

Under the guidance of Janine Fairall, Director of Operations at the Boys & Girls Club, Hoffman spearheaded the renovation project. From constructing additional shelves and storage units to painting and cleaning each room, Hoffman’s meticulous planning and execution breathed new life into the facility.

Hoffman’s commitment extended beyond the physical work. With a budget of $1800, he embarked on a fundraising campaign that included a GoFundMe page and garnered support from local businesses such as All Professional Painting, Home Depot, and Walmart. Remarkably, he ended up donating $400 back to the Club, showcasing his selflessness and dedication to the cause.

At the completion of the project, Fairall expressed her gratitude, emphasizing the lasting impact of Hoffman’s leadership and initiative. “Zach’s dedication has left an enduring impact on our facility and members, showcasing the true spirit of Scouting and embodying the principles of the Eagle Scouts with excellence,” she remarked.

The upcoming Eagle Scout court of honor ceremony will feature speeches from city officials, Scouts, and Club representatives, including City Councilmember Jason Gibbs and Matthew Nelson, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club. It will be an opportunity to acknowledge Hoffman’s exemplary leadership and community service.

Reflecting on his journey, Hoffman expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout the project. “It was great seeing all the important people in my life coming together to support me. It felt great to give them direction confidently and to end up with something to benefit the Boys & Girls Club,” he said.

Hoffman’s Eagle Scout project not only revitalized a space but also served as a testament to the values of leadership, compassion, and commitment to making a positive difference. As guests gather to celebrate his achievement, they will witness firsthand the impact of his dedication on the community and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
